With West London 2's pulling out of the league fixture Whitton decided to take on fellow MMT4 Wasps. The Lions traveled with a strong squad, though the wet conditions would hamper Lions attacking style.
In a slow first half the scrum became the dominant feature of the game as the ball slipped out of attacking players hands. Lions were dealt a blow when midfield mistro Kiran came off injured. Wasps were the first to score late in the first half, after managing to break into the Lions twenty two and dart over.
The next try could have been avoided, with Lions winning the ball at the line out they began to maul it up field, the ball was then passed out to Ryan and it slipped out of his grasp, Wasps pounced on the ball and ran the last ten metres to score.
Wasps 12-0 Lions halftime
In the second half Wasps produced one of the only flowing backs moves, pushing the ball wide then sprinting down the wing before passing back inside to score under the posts.
James eventually replied for the Lions dummying off a line out to score under the posts. for the remainder of the game Lions tried to draw level most notably through runs from forwards Jonny Newman and Marcus but the final passes could not stick.
In the end Lions went down 19-7 but can be proud of the effort shown not to fold when the score was 19-0 and the floodgates could have opened.
Man of the Match was new hooker Luke Flynn who provided a great platform in the line out and was mobile around the field.
Dick of the Day was Adam for some awkward kicks, but it could have been Ryan for that drop.
Next week we take on Old I's in a big derby game away at Wood Lane.
