Whitton Lions Vs Old Isleworthians
Whitton Lions aimed to round the year off in style with their forth encounter of 2018 with Old Isleworthians, though with the rain lashing down the previous night grunt would have to prevail over style.
Early on in the game Lions were under the cosh with Old I’s camped in the twenty two, with only stout defending keeping them out. Apart from the early stages of the game Lions dominated possession and territory throughout the first half and occasionally came close to scoring but for the Old I’s defence.
With yellow cards for ruck and maul infringements Lions started to use the backs, though they were stuck in the mud when trying to ship the ball wide. Captain James patented fake the ball over his head routine was not working either. An opportunity to slot three points became Lions only method of scoring thanks to Ryan Nauth. To the dismay of the Lions deep into the half they fluffed a prime scoring opportunity only metres from Old I’s line.

In the second half Lions continued their dominance and when the time came slotted another three points through “Flanker” Ryan Nauth. Although disaster struck when makeshift fullback Adam Sluman from a long ranged kick fumbled the ball back over his line; I mean I think that is what happened I was about fifty metres away. Being 6-0 this was critical point in the game and Old I’s looked likely to score but the ball found its way into touch. With Lions holding out play progressed back up into Old I’s red zone and on 61 minutes with Lions underneath the posts with a scrum the game was ended early with a back injury to an Old I’s player - Get Well Soon!
