New Captain J.J. Bates saw his side slip to a narrow defeat in this pre-season friendly match with local rivals.

A strong but unfamiliar Lions side started the game a bit scrappy, but Coach Dean's rucking training and direction provided by the half back pairing of Ryan Nauth and TeeJ Farrell led to some promising moments in the opening quarter.

Despite leaking a soft try the Lions came back into in with Teej crashing over from short range after a good kick chase from the back three.

The Lions led going into the final moments when an O.I.'s kick to space led to a scrum on the Lions 5 meter line. The experienced, strong O.I.'s pack drove over and their 8 touched down under pressure.

Plenty of good displays and much to work on heading into Training this Wednesday evening (2000hrs at the Lion's Den).
