In an intriguing league title race which is predicted to go down to the last day, Whitton Lions faced a stern test of their title credentials against Wasps 2nds, a team they had lost to twice this season.

Whitton started brightly from a clearing kick from the twenty two, Zak and Adam raced up the field and applied pressure on the Wasps fielder and the ball became loose. Adam hacked the ball down field and pounced on the ball to notch up the first try, from wide Ryan missed the conversion Lions 5-0 Wasps.

From territory in the Wasps half; Whitton were awarded a penalty. James opted for the posts and Ryan opened his account for the day, Lions 8-0.

Though from the restart the game was flipped on its head. Leo using his footballing skills controlled the ball and propelled it towards Hal in an offside position, giving Wasps field territory deep in Lions half. From this Wasps with their superior pack scored two tries and a penalty, despite the great defensive work of Omar who managed three tackles in the space of fifteenth seconds. Clearing kicks from Kiran and the lineout skills of Angus prevented further tries being scored by stealing large amounts of Wasps possession. Also great fullback play from Henry D who stepped his way out of trouble from behind his own line.

In the dying minutes of the first half a Wasps attack broke down from a knock on and Whitton's pack secured the ball. This gave James the opportunity to break away and score a superb try.

HT Lions 15-15 Wasps.

In the second half Lions started strongly but couldn't convert the pressure into points, firstly Ryan's penalty went wide and Zak's knock on after a bust up field left Lions frustrated. Though the backs rectified this, a neat offload from Kiran set up his midfield partner Adam to sprint in under the posts, Lions 22-15 Wasps.

After this James called on the replacements in the shape of Jon Bird Tom and Mark G. Once again Wasps countered and a strong driving maul brought them meters from Lions try line on many occasions, before their lock barged his way over the line, Lions 22-22 Wasps.

With minutes to go, Lions sealed the game, having gained possession in Wasps twenty two James darted over; and Lions held out for the remaining few minutes to secure a vital win.
