Whitton Lions Vs Hampstead 4's
With Bank of England 2’s pulling out of the league game it was ensured that Lions would come away with seven points from the weekend’s endeavours; though a much sterner test awaited with a combination of Hampstead 3rds and 4ths visiting the WSPA Ground.
Hampstead targetted their kick off at the vertically challeneged Graeme, sending their vertically endowed forward to contest and win the ball, from this Hampstead pressed into the Lions twenty two. Ferocious defending from Graeme, James, Adam and Kiran kept Hampstead, who were guided by their skilful swerving playmaker, from breaking through.
From a penalty Lions were able to evacuate from the danger zone build some territory in Hampstead’s half, this was aided by strong ball carrying from forwards Wayne, Zak, Essex Paul and Southern Irish Mark. At the lineout, the work of Hal, Northern Irish Mark and Angus meant the Lions were able to both secure and steal possession. From this Kiran was able to score the first try bursting down the right hand side of the pitch to give the Lions a 7-0 lead.
Lions second try came when a backs move, this time down the left, resulted in Giant Western Irish Paul striding his way over the try line, 14-0 Lions.
The scoring was rounded off deep into the first half with Zak trying to bulldoze his way over the line, he was swung round like a rag doll and a penalty was given. From this Wayne came close to scoring, but the ball was shipped wide to Kiran who selflessly whilst diving over the try line offloaded the ball to James to make this seasons top tryscorrer table more interesting
HT Lions 21-0 Hampstead.
At halftime James rung the changes and put Adam in charge and Adam showed the way to get things done by scoring early on in the second half stepping by jinking his way under the posts. The Lions dominated further with forwards Wayne and Zak making large gains into Hampstead’s half and Zippy scrum half Fitzy making some great incisions and box kicks. Hampstead came close to scoring when Greame was sent off for being offside; Hampstead got white line fever, shame for them our lines are blue and so were two to three metres short.
With Lions clearing their lines and field possession gained in Hampstead’s twenty two, Ma’a Nonu like centre Kiran crashed over to bring the score to 35-0 and within ten minutes the match was over. So it is a new year but the same good old Lions.

Man of the Match Kiran for great attacking and defensive play, scoring two and setting up another try and finally for perfecting a new form of Chiropractory through tackling.
Dick of the Day Ryan for flapping the ball over his head.
Next week we take on the Wasps at the WSPA Ground and hopefully we will finally take the sting out of their tail.
